MOUTH GUARDS & TENS THERAPY AT OUR ST. CATHARINES DENTAL OFFICE

Transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS) is a drug-free, muscle tension management tool used to treat bruxism (tooth grinding and/or clenching). It works by relaxing the jaw muscles, prior to taking impressions used to make the night-guards, resulting in guards that fit more accurately.

How does it work?

By using mild electrical impulses, TENS stimulates nerves which activate your muscles, relaxing them and allowing your jaw to close in a more relaxed position. TENS is widely considered to be safe and effective. The FDA has approved TENS, which has been in use for decades.

Will it hurt?

You’ll feel relaxed when TENS is used as part of your dental care. The electrical current used is very low; and even if the current is set too high, you may feel only slightly uncomfortable. Rather than pain, you’ll likely feel as if you’re having a deep tissue massage.. The machine can quickly and easily be turned down for your comfort.

Will my insurance cover it?

Many insurance carriers cover TENS therapy.

Sports Guards

If your child is enrolled in a sports activity, properly fitted sports guards are important in preventing concussions. We supply inexpensive, custom-made sports guards that actually fit. Protecting teeth and jaw from impact, our mouth guards act as a cushion, ensuring you have an effective barrier protecting your teeth, your gums, lips, and other soft tissue. If you or your children wear braces or other fixed orthodontic appliances, we’ll make sure that your mouth guard fits properly.

Night Guards

Do you find yourself grinding your teeth at night – so much so that it’s keeping your partner up? We have effective night guards that’ll protect your teeth and jaw while you sleep. Our night guards are durable, resilient, and comfortable.

Apnea/Snoring Appliances

It's not just snoring! Apnea is a serious health issue affecting males and females, old and young, thick and thin. Apnea increases your risk of high blood pressure, leading to heart attacks and/or stroke; type II diabetes; acid reflux; daytime drowsiness; even memory loss and impotence.

Many people are prescribed a CPAP machine which forces air into your throat; but, 60% of these patients are non-users after only 1 year. Often, these patients prefer an oral/dental appliance instead which opens the airway during sleep by re-positioning the lower jaw ‘open’ and ‘forward.’
